About Us

Institute of Culture Studies was established in 2006 at the Faculty of Humanities. It was emerged on the basis of the Department of History and Theory of Culture. Institute offers the educational programs in Cultural Studies on the BA, MA, and PhD levels. Since 2009, as a result of the collaboration with the Department of International Relations and the Department of Political Sciences (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences) a new MA Program "Nationalism and Ethnicity Studies" was opened.

In March 2006, an agreement about the establishment of the UNESCO Chair in Intercultural Dialogue was signed by the Secretary-General of UNESCO and the Rector of Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Now the Chair is a member of UNESCO/UNITWIN network and collaborates with other member chairs. The memorandum is signed with the National Curriculum and Assessment Centre (Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia).

Since 2003 annual scientific journal "Civilization Researches" is published. The journal gained an international status from 2007.
